The Indonesian Shadow Puppet Show.

Using shadow puppet is a very old storytelling tradition around the world.

Indonesia has its own shadow puppet show.

Indonesian people call it wayang kulit.

Wayang means shadow and kulit means leather.

Wayang kulit has a history of more than 1,000 years, and it is still very popular today.

Sometimes, hundreds of people stay up all night to watch famous plays.

Wayang kulit usually tells about a battle between good and evil.

In the stories, good always wins, and evil runs away.

To Make Shadow Puppets.

Draw a puppet on the paper.

You should draw the upper and lower arms separately.

Cut out all the pieces.

Tape a stick to the back of the puppet's body.

Join the upper and lower arms with paper fasteners.

Join the arms to the shoulders.

Tape a stick to each of the puppet's hands.

To Put on a Show.

First, hang a white sheet between two chairs.

Second, shine a light on the back of the sheet.

Third, kneel down behind the sheet and move the puppet above your head.

Use one hand to move one arm.

Use the other hand to move the other arm and to the body.
